This year, I’ve been quite obsessed with avocados. I put them on salads, in smoothies and I think I’ve mastered the best guacamole ever (my husband agrees :-)) which makes it official in my mind, haha! While I could eat guacamole almost everyday, I decided to find a way to use it with Heidi’s grain free fish sticks. Since her recipe was almost a screaming for a tasty dipping sauce, I thought a Mexican type flare would be a delicious addition to the dish.
This crema is dairy free, paleo and has great potential to be added to sandwiches, used as a dip with vegetables or added to the top of tacos too! What kid doesn’t love to dip their chicken fingers or fish sticks in a dip? Feel free to swap out the coconut yogurt for Greek yogurt or sour cream if you eat dairy. The tanginess from the yogurt and spice from the cayenne adds a punch of flavor to the crispy fish sticks.
Paleo Avocado Crema
-1 large avocado, peeled & seeded
-1/8-1/4 cup plain coconut yogurt (depending on size of avocado)
-1/2 lemon, juiced
-1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
-1/8 teaspoon onion powder
-salt & pepper
-pinch of cayenne
Add peeled avocado, yogurt and lemon juice to a small bowl and mash until smooth. Mix in garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper and cayenne if using. Serve immediately with crispy fish sticks, chicken or your favorite veggies. This tastes delicious as a sandwich spread too.
What is your favorite way to enjoy avocados? Avocado season is almost over, so be sure to run out and enjoy them before they are gone until next March 🙂
