Trending Bytes Women in Bed

You may notice there is a theme to my Trending Bytes this month. I am all about making healthy choices for your menstrual cycle. Sometimes, it is not a fun part of being a woman and these products make being a lady a bit easier.

LOLA Tampons

Lola Tampons are committed to making a menstrual flow product that is free of harsh chemicals, minimizing the impact on the environment, and they do what they are meant to: provide great leak protection. I came across LOLA Tampons after repeated irritation with store-bought tampons. And if there is anywhere I do not want to feel irritated, it’s down there :O

The Verdict: Love! Between the discount for first time purchase, being shipped to my home, and the irritation vanishing, I am a fan. Also, I really appreciated the ability to customize my tampon absorptions (light, regular, heavy) and choose when I want them delivered. At 9 dollars per box, these tampons are a bit more than store bought ones. For me, spending the extra money to support a great company, which creating a great product, makes it worth it.

Thinx Panties

It took me a while to purchase these period panties. I actually read a lot of reviews and thought about it before I made my purchase. I mean what are period panties? Well according to their website, their underwear can be used in place of feminine hygiene products while still feeling like the awesome lady you are. From the outside, they look like normal panties, but on the inside, there is patented technology to keep you dry and spill free.

The Verdict: LOVE! I bought the hip hugger style as I wanted a heavy day option. I used their size guide and when I received them I thought I had ordered a size too big. After trying them on, I discovered that they were a perfect fit. When my period rolled around, I was pumped to try them out. Not only were they comfortable, but I did not have anything to worry about. No leaks or fuss. While I have not taken the plunge to only wear just the panties (I use them with tampons), I did find that on my heaviest days, especially overnight, these panties worked great.

Another huge bonus to supporting Thinx, is that part of their mission is to empower women across the world by not only working with a family owned factory in Sri Lanka, but a portion of their profits go to supporting AFRIpads, which teaches women in Uganda to sew washable reusable cloth pads. Lastly, a girl can purchase these cloth pads to wear and still go to school when menstruating. Pretty cool, huh?

Clue App

I am a big fan of tracking my menstrual cycle for a few reasons:

  • Every time the nurse asks me, “When was the date of your last period?” I can stop staring at them blankly and check the app on my phone.
  • I find it to be very helpful when noticing any patterns or changes in my cycle too.

I had found the app Clue by accident and was so impressed by it I decide to give it a try. Not only does it have a user-friendly interface, but it is wickedly accurate. Also, you receive emails with your “insights” plus great information about all things hormonal.

Verdict: Overall, a great app. I like that I can track everything from my temp. to bad hair days. Also, the app has tons of info in about what a good or bad hair day means for your cycle and hormones. The one thing that irks me is in the temp section. If you miss up entering your temp (because who can have that much attention to detail at 6 am) and do not notice until the next day, there is no way to change (or I have not figured it out). Also, I wish there was a notification if a weird temp is entered (pretty sure my temp was not 9 degrees on Tuesday) to confirm that is what you meant. Otherwise, I am a fan.
